MICHAEL ZOUPA
Michael is a Neuro-affirming Counsellor at Neurodiverse.
He brings a rare combination of psychological training, holistic health practice, and hands-on human connection to his counselling work.
Clinical and therapeutic expertise
Michael holds a Masters of Psychotherapy (Person-Centred Counselling) and a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies in Psychology. His approach blends solution-focused and cognitive reframing techniques with holistic modalities including Kinesiology, NLP, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupressure meridian clearing and muscle testing). He is also trained in trauma-informed care and suicide prevention.
Addiction and recovery
He has led group psychotherapy and psycho-education programs for people in recovery, and draws on lived experience as a 12-step graduate (SLAA and CODA) working as both a sponsee and service provider — giving him genuine empathy and credibility with clients facing addiction.
Working with diverse and complex needs
Through NDIS support work, Michael has supported neurodivergent clients, adults with acquired brain injury, people with disabilities, and those managing mental health challenges. He has built a strong reputation over a decade of private practice, maintaining a large referral base and long-term client results.
Health, wellbeing and coaching
Alongside counselling, he integrates physical wellbeing into his practice, with qualifications in fitness, nutrition, Qigong teaching, and life coaching. This whole-person perspective lets him address mental, emotional, and physical health together.
Communication and connection
As a published author of three books and a former radio and media producer, Michael is a skilled communicator who knows how to make people feel understood. His background coaching individuals and groups — from kids to adults — reflects patience, adaptability, and a genuine talent for building trust.
Key strengths at a glance: empathy and rapport-building, holistic and integrative practice, experience with complex and vulnerable populations, strong communication skills, and a grounded, real-world understanding of recovery and personal growth.
Michael provides contracted services to Neurodiverse as required.
